Mag. Dr. Monika Mühlböck, BSc

Principal Investigator

Monika Mühlböck is a Senior Researcher at the Institute for Advanced Studies (IHS). She studied Political Science and Mathematics at the University of Vienna. In addition to her position at IHS, which she joined in 2021, she is Assistant Professor at the University of Vienna. Previously, she held positions at the University of Mannheim, the University of Salzburg, and the Vienna University of Economics and Business. Monika has been Visiting Fellow at the Collegio Carlo Alberto, Visiting Professor at Central European University, Fellow at the University of Colorado and Visiting Researcher at the University of Turku. Her research interests include education and labor market research, as well as public policy. Specifically, she studies the transition from education to employment. She also serves as scientific coordinator of the Austrian Socio-Economic Panel.

Univ.-Prof. Mag. Dr. Nadia Steiber

Co-PI

Nadia Steiber is Professor of Social Stratification and Quantitative Methods at the Department of Sociology at the University of Vienna and a Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies (IHS). She also serves as Scientific Lead of the Register Data Lab at the University of Vienna and as Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Austrian Socio-Economic Panel. Her main research interests lie at the intersection of employment and family research and include the implications of life-course events. Current projects using AMDC register data include the WWTF-funded FAMREG project and the ÖAW-funded STEMPATH project.

Bernd Liedl, BA BA MA

Researcher

Bernd Liedl is researcher, administrative assistant and data manager at the Data Centre at the Department of Sociology. He obtained his MA in Sociology at the University of Vienna (2024) and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy (2013). His research focuses on poverty, inequality in the labour market and migration.

Katharina Burtscher, BSc

Researcher (07/2026-08/2026)

Katharina Burtscher has been researcher at the IHS in the research group Educational Structures and Educational Opportunities. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Economics, Data, and Policy at Central European University and previously earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Social Sciences from the Vienna University of Economics and Business. She is passionate about social policy, gender equality, and statistical analysis.
